What are Travel Cards?
Travel Cards are in essence a pre-paid credit card that you can use abroad. Rather than creating a big bill at the end of your holiday, you can put money on your travel card in advance and spend to your heart’s desire abroad. Easier than traveller’s cheques as you don’t have to find somewhere to cash the money you can carry your travel card around in your wallet just like a regular credit card.
So what are the advantages?
You can watch your budget. You can only spend what is on the card, meaning
you can effectively budget for your holiday. You won’t get home to the
worry of debt, just loads of great memories!
You don’t have to pass a credit check like a normal credit card as there
is no credit involved, you just get the card, start topping the card up
and away you go.
Lots of travel card issuers will offer an emergency card or a cash
replacement should anything happen to your card. This means that you will
never be without your money on holiday.
They don’t just come in UK Pound Stirling; you can get travel cards in
Euro or US Dollar so you know exactly how much you have to spend in your
holiday country. This can mean that you don’t pay any exchange rates, but
check that with your issuer first.
